A urinary tract infection (UTI) is a common infection that occurs when bacteria, usually from the skin or rectum, enter the urethra and infect the urinary tract. UTIs are more common in women because the female urethra is shorter and closer to the rectum. This makes it easier for bacteria to enter and infect the urinary tract.
The UTI self-test is a qualitative and semi-quantitative test designed to detect the presence of white blood cells (leukocytes), nitrite, and blood (haemoglobin) in urine. These parameters can be used as diagnostic indicators of a UTI. This kit is intended for self-testing at home. Results should be interpreted by comparing the test strip with the colour chart.
Product Features and Benefits:
- Home test.
- Detects leukocytes, blood and nitrites in urine.
- Detects early signs of urinary tract infection.
- Test result at 1 minute.
- Easy to use.
Directions For Use:
- Remove the test strip from the aluminium foil pouch and use it immediately.
- Clean the genital area before testing. First morning urine is recommended.
- Hold the end of the test strip and allow the urine to flow over the test pads. Alternatively, collect urine in a clean, dry container and immerse the test pads completely in the urine for 1-2 seconds.
- Shake off excess urine using a tissue. Place the test strip with the test pads facing upwards and start timing.
- Read the results at 1 minute for nitrite and haemoglobin, and at 2 minutes for leukocytes. Do not interpret the results after 3 minutes.
- Compare the test strip colours with the colour chart on the packaging.
- Important: A negative result does not completely rule out a UTI, especially if symptoms are present.
- Refer to product leaflet for interpretation of results.
Test Limitations:
- This test is intended for screening purposes and is not a diagnostic test. Consult a doctor before making treatment decisions.
- Certain substances or conditions may affect the test and cause false-positive or false-negative results.
